All the world's a garden, you know, and we are mere flowers within it. Come, I'll show you!

Flowers Don't Last Forever

T'is a pity indeed. Flowers don't last forever. They look stunning at first, but then comes the heavy downpour and...

Helpful Wildflower

I was coming along on the lawn tractor one day and was about to plow down this long row of weeds by the road when I realized it wasn't just weeds. There was a very helpful wildflower in the bunch; namely the common milkweed, aka Asclepias syriaca.

Stoned Again

Yes,  I've been stoned again...perhaps that's not the right terminology, though. I'll explain.

Trimming the Rhododendrons

Recall, if you will, how I trimmed back the Rhododendrons along this path last year around this time. The path was...well, what path? It could hardly be seen. A person could barely get through let alone a wheelbarrow. It's filled in some, but it's still passable.

Now, the Rhodos on the side yard are another story. I don't think I have ever trimmed these. I don't think I ever thought I needed to. The rhodos had the side yard all to themselves for the longest time.

I Never Promised You a Rose Garden

I may have never promised you a rose garden, but I have one to show you just the same.

It rained for about a week--quite literally the entire week--and when the sun finally got to come out, I went outside and POOF! Julie's Rose Garden was magically all a-bloom. Oh, but what a pretty sight!

Back to Penn State's Arboretum

I didn't finish showing you everything at Penn State's Arboretum, so prepare to be floored...okay, I exaggerate, but not by much.

Grapes on the fence, seemed too young to have fruit this year, but I'll bet we'll find some next year. Justin's already said he's coming back, so...I'll be seeing the garden again. YAY!

The Botanical Garden at Penn State

So, you know we were at the Special Olympics Aquatic state finals with Justin a while back, and that was fun, but while looking for the building which housed the pool we went passed the relatively new Penn State Arboretum--it would have been more accurate to have called it a botanical garden, but that's not for me to decide-- and you had to know I was not going to miss seeing it. Uh-uh, no way, no how!

Justin at Penn State

If you've been around here long enough, you'll know Justin has been participating in Special Olympics and he recently--like last Thursday-- went to Penn State for the state finals. This was a big thing for Justin who had never been away from home on a sleep over without family members. He was thrilled!

What you won't do for love...of garden

What you won't do for love...that is to say, for the garden that you love...excuse me while I groove to the song first...

Okay, enough of that. I promised to tell you about the drastic measures I had to resort to in my quest to rid my garden of a nasty, hideous, invasive, plaguing weed. The weed of which I speak?

Drastic Measures Against Weeds

Weeds, weeds! I hate weeds!

It is a well known fact in the gardening world that drastic measures sometimes need to be taken against weeds, if we, the gardeners, are to prevail. If it wasn't for the public struggles with the weeds Raymond Alexander Kukkee could not identify --Yes, Mr. Bonsai Guy at Incoming Bytes-- plus those of Crooked Yarn crochet wizard Marie Anne vs Canadian* Thistle In the garden with Sow-&-Sow, I might not have thought of doing what I did.

Mystery Plant has a Name

It seems my mystery plant has a name...several perhaps.

Even though we could not positively find an identity for my mystery plant, we could find a name for it. That is to say, I have received several suggestions--from friends with nothing better to do but spend time enough to make me laugh. I have to say I liked all the suggestions and  I thought I'd give them to you for appraisal and possibly a vote on the best name.

Yes, we do know how to have fun around here.

The Mystery Continues

The mystery continues. I found this photo of my mystery plant in flower! I had totally forgotten it had had flowers last year and I did take a photo of it. YAY! Then I went outside between cloud bursts and found that my current plant is flowering now too!

So, I posted this flowering photo on Facebook and asked all my garden buddies to try to identify it now. I mean to say, it had to be easier to find out what this plant is now that we have a flower to help.

The Ten Things I have to do before I do the one thing I want to do

This is the story of the ten things I had to do before I did the one thing I want to do. Case in point, my hanging baskets.

I meant to mention my hanging baskets before this, but as usual, I got side-tracked. I think I told you about them last autumn when Tom bought them on super-duper save at the end of the growing season--that's when you get all the good stuff cheap, in case you were wondering.

Strangers in the Rhododendrons

This is my Rhododendron hedge and you may not know it, but there are strangers among us...sort of.

Clematis Time

It seems everything is blooming all at once and now it's Clematis time.
