Glory's Garden

All the world's a garden, you know, and we are mere flowers within it. Come, I'll show you!

Don't get any funny ideas!

Broadway, here we come!

Actually, that ought to read, Broadway, been there, done that, but here we come just sounded better for a title.

A few weeks back--yes, I forgot to tell you, or rather, I had other things to talk/write about since then-- Tom and I went to New York City to see a Broadway show with our friends Marc and Careen. I mentioned them before when they invited us to their lovely Christmas party at Kip's Castle. Careen of Hartmann Staging and Design did the decorating you may recall.

Well, they insisted we go to a show with them when we told them we had never been to Broadway.

"Never been to Broadway???" Marc said. "What kind of New Yorkers are you?"

Stained Glass Baby Blanket

It’s Craft Tuesday, the day we take for talking crafts. Sewing, crocheting, knitting and other crafts come to save my sanity while the garden sleeps.

I've been at it again as you can see. Well, I would be. It's not exactly time for planting anything yet, whether inside or not. This time I created flat panels with my loom knitter with no idea what I was to do with them once I finished them. I didn't even know how many I would end up with. I was just using whatever stray yarn I could find.

Happy Anniversary for me and Tommy

I'm totally losing it. Why? Because I forgot to tell you it was my anniversary... two days past St. Valentine's day on the 16th. It was number 28 for us and I still can't believe it's been that long! But as Tom always points out, "It would've been more if we hadn't listened to our stupid parents!"

I don't think he'll ever forgive them for making us wait a whole year to get married, but I can't blame them. Tommy and I had only been dating for a few months when we told them we wanted to get married even though we had decided way before then. Tom actually TOLD me we were going to get married on our third date-- I did write a story based on it in case you are curious exactly how it went (okay, kind of, sort of how it went) -- but I may have told you that before...don't recall....hold on, I'll be right back.

Tools of my very own

Tom finally gave me tools of my very own. Don't see why it took him this long, but I suspect it was to keep me from "fixing" things around the house in  a not-good-enough-even-for-government-work sort of way.

Slaves to Technolgy

If you've been here for any length of time, you'll know I don't have the normal thought processes of your average person. Needless to say, I see all things a bit oddly...at least I think I do.

I told you once my perception of the wildly popular movie Avatar. I'm rather certain no one else saw in it what I did. So, it would also be the case with the film Wall-e. I don't suppose many of you would even know of its existence unless you have little ones in your dwelling or within easy and frequent reach. It is a Disney type kid's movie, computer generated cartoon of sorts.

Unexpected snow squall

We had a burst of snow on Saturday...what one might call a squall. Huge fluffy snowflakes fell steadily for about an hour or two.

Activities for kids (and moms) with cabin fever

More where that came from

I don't quite think this truly can count as a Craft Tuesday piece, but as it is winter and I'm in a nostalgic sort of mood, I thought of a time when cabin fever was at an all time high for me and my kids. It was snowing something fierce and the temperatures were deadly cold. I hate going out in the snow and cold as you well know, so inside we stayed....with a twist. We brought the outside inside. I'll explain.

Second tomato

No, the second tomato isn't anything like playing second banana to someone...I don't think so anyway.
I'm referring to the second tomato that's ripe enough to pluck off my indoor plant. Boy, this weak winter sun surely isn't enough for this endeavor to be very productive, but at this point it's just a test to see how long I can get it to stay alive. That it's still producing, is just an added benefit!

Unfortunately, several problem arose in the pursuit of the endlessly going tomato plant.

Zebrina: Gone but not forgotten

Thursday, January 26, 10:25PM. That was the time and day my oldest and dearest cat Zebrina slipped away from this world. She may be gone, but she is definitely not forgotten...it just took me this long to be able to give her a proper send off...or maybe not. It's starting to get a bit too blurry to write properly.

Groups of trees by any other name...

I asked you several months back--probably when the massive maple debate was going on between Julie Helms and Raymond Alexander Kukkee!-- what the difference was between a wood and a forest. Well, since then I've thought of and found a few other tree terms which baffled me. Okay, not so much baffled, but they did get me thinking. Why, for instance, do some people use them interchangeably when they have, in fact, subtle difference to each? Could be they just don't know them and I thought I might not either until I read up on them.. and I found I knew more than I thought I did. That happens a lot with me, oddly enough.

Here is what I found:

Happy St Valentine's day!

It’s Craft Tuesday, the day we take for talking crafts. Sewing, crocheting, knitting and other crafts come to save my sanity while the garden sleeps.

As promised I'm going to show you what my crocheted  hearts were supposed to be. If you missed last week's craft Tuesday post, you'll know what a mess my facebook buddies made of my very innocent St. Valentine's day craft project.

Dish gardening

I have a dish garden. Know what that is? Sure you do! It's a tiny garden in a dish...duh! Want to see mine? Sure you do!

Real and fake Geraniums

Last time I told you about my little piece of a garden or fake geranium which I surprisingly rooted in a pot on a windowsill. Now I must explain why I insist on calling it a fake geranium. How in the world of gardening can a growing and flowering plant be fake? Well, I'll tell ya!

Fake Geranium but a real Pelargonium

New discovery

Know what I just newly discovered? Well, not exactly new. It's been more than a few months since I saw this, but I only just took the photo and actually remembered I wanted to tell you about it.

Why I love being a pack rat

You see, this is why I love being a pack rat. I had a problem and my pack-rat ways saved me the trouble of getting all miffed about it. What was the problem? Brandon stole all the rags out of my rag box. He ran out down in the shop and he has filthy pumps piling up which all need major cleaning, hence the need for rags.

My St. Valentine's day craft project gone awry

This is a story about my St. Valentine's day craft project gone awry. I had no intention of doing a St. Valentine's day craft project, but that's the suggestion I received from my good friend Alexandra Heep when I posted my dilemma on Facebook--And you thought Facebook was good for nothing more than wasting time. Silly you!--What dilemma? I'll tell you.
Cupid getting it on with his beloved Psyche

There I was bored on a Saturday afternoon...okay, I wasn't really bored, per say. I never really am. I just kinda felt like doing something new. I was in the middle of writing a chapter for Violet's in Bloom ...no, I have that wrong. It was for An Ever Fixed Mark. I remember I left Janet and Wes--the two main teenage characters--in the school's courtyard and I just didn't feel like having lunch with them, at least not just then. Did I just digress again? Think I did.

Anyway...

The hazards of Christmas

I know it's a bit late, but I'd like to talk about the hazards of Christmas, and no, I'm not referring to time spent with less than desirable relations. I'm thinking of those pretty glass globes and other delicate things we often use to adorn our Christmas trees.
So much for that one

Groundhog's day my butt!

Today is groundhog's day, the day in which we give a mere rodent--albeit a rather large one-- his due. Puxotany Phil is the official spring forecaster from the ingenious town (By way of marketing tourism and providing the entire town plus all the thousands of annual Groundhog's day visitors a great excuse to party down while cabin fever is at its highest level, you must admit that is rather brilliant!) town of Puxatony somewhere in middle-earth Pennsylvania who will let us know when we can kiss our winter coats goodbye.

Boredom knows no limit

Gees, this prolonged winter with no tropical breaks is really taking its toll...on me that is. Look what my boredom has me doing. I've resorted to organizing my socks.

Boredom knows no limits.
