All the world's a garden, you know, and we are mere flowers within it. Come, I'll show you!

Anticipation

So, I see this and many others all a-bloom as I'm driving up the road and anticipation hits me. Anticipation for what you ask?

Neon Lights Azaleas

Glory, Alexis and Justin

We--meaning Tommy and I--were first introduced to the pretty and rather fragrant Neon Lights Azaleas one lovely spring when we managed to visit Highland Park, the Botanical garden in Rochester, NY.

Tree Peony A-Bloomin'

After almost an entire week of rain I go outside to find my tree peony is a-bloomin'! Well, don't you know, I was thrilled.

Wordless Wednesday

I'm trying out this Wordless Wednesday thing for the first time. I must say, though, it rubs me the wrong way, so I'll give you commentary on these shots--from a tour of my garden of course-- tomorrow. You couldn't expect me to be wordless forever, did you???

How Does This Happen?

Well, I may ask how does this-- and many other things-- happen in my garden, but I usually know the answer.

Trexler Park in Allentown

After Justin's Special Olympic success at Kutztown, Tom wanted to make the most of his day off, since he has so few of them. He then took us to a park he just came upon in Allentown. He had been looking for the Allentown park we used to go to way back, but he simply could not find it again--just didn't recall where it was, which ended up being a good thing, because we then found Trexler park and I have to say I liked it better.

There is a nice pond with fish and ducks floating lazily about. We did see a duck dive-bombing into the water, too. Perhaps he was extra energetic?

Denim Crafts: Hanging Clothes Pin Bag

If you will recall, quite a while back I extolled the wonders of blogging and introduced some of my writing/blogging buddies. Well, in that post I also mentioned I would show some useful items I made with the denims my pal Dan Shaw sent me. Which reminds me, I have to send these finished projects back to him and Beth before they send out the denim police!

Tree Geeks

Hidden cove under the Weeping Willow
Tommy and I are such tree geeks. There we were at the Special Olympics at Kutztown University with Justin and instead of sitting in the cramp room awaiting Justin's next event, we went for a walk out on the grounds and the surrounding neighborhood and what did we see? Trees, loads of them and we named them. No, not silly names like Fluffy and Fido. We would say their common and sometimes their botanical names. Yes, we do that, just can't help it. That's a tree geek for you!

My Nursery Garden

My nursery garden back in the day
I slightly touched upon my nursery garden the other day while lamenting about having too many peonies. I promised to tell you about the one I have, but I don't suppose you even know what a nursery garden actually is, so I'll tell you that first.

Real nursery garden

Justin's Special Olympics Swim Meet

Oh, but you have never seen anyone so stoked as Justin was at the Special Olympics Swim Meet at Kutztown University on Saturday May 5, 2012. He and his gang from Area P--I assume that stands for Poconos, but not entirely certain-- were up before the sun to get down that way and be there on time--8am-- for all the preliminary stuff--coaches meetings, registration and the opening ceremony with all the fanfare.

Justin was even picked to hold up the banner for his delegation--Way cool! He was thrilled!

Swimming with the Fishes or Justin

Have I said lately that swimming with the fishes is a vast deal like swimming with Justin...sort of.

Why, yes, Justin does like to swim...a lot. How can you tell?  His swim suits disintegrating after vacation would be your first clue.

Missing Honeysuckle Flowers

What? I missed the Honeysuckle flowers? That is what I thought had happened. I almost had a heart attack!

How'd That Happen?

Sometimes after I take a stroll in my garden I end up puzzling until my puzzler is quite sore.  This is the time I scratch my head and say, "How'd that happen?" I do that often when I tour the garden. I find a surprise around every corner...or I should say shrub. Okay, some are not so surprising nor puzzling, but still...

Late Reflections on the A-Z Blogging Challenge

My apologies for being late with this reflection on the A-Z Blogging Challenge. I was taking advantage of the only day this week which wouldn't rain so I could get some much needed grass-cutting done. As it is now raining, I can devote some indoor time to this, plus writing a chapter or two and sundry other indoor type activities.

So, how was the A-Z Blogging challenge? Well, I had some fun with it and I especially liked finding several interesting blogs. Oh, but to have more time to read those and find others which would interest me! I was stunned at the sheer and extraordinarily high number of blogs in this challenge! Gee-Louise, my poor little Glory's Garden was #1876 or some such and there were several others after mine, but some time during the challenge I found several blogs were either taken off the list for violations or dropped out. I suppose it wouldn't be a challenge if everyone could do it.

I was rather impressed with those who picked a theme for the challenge. I wish I had done that, but as this was thrust at me the actual day it started--Sunday, April 1-- I didn't have much time to find an appropriate one for me. Perhaps next time.

Will there be a next time? Well, I will certainly try it again. This was my second year, although I didn't register anywhere last year--didn't even know you had to until this time! Silly me, but that's how you learn, by trying things out. Did I learn anything from the experience? Yes, that people love to blog almost--perhaps more so--than I do. I'm not alone after all!

It was a fun experience this April A-Z Blogging Challenge for 2012. Can't wait to see you all in 2013!

Odd Spring Indeed

Yoshino Cherry tree

I'm not telling you anything you haven't heard a thousand times in the past few months, but by-gosh-by-golly, this has been an odd spring indeed. That is to say, here in the northeastern part of the USA. First, most of us didn't have much of a usual type winter, summer seemed to jump over spring and lingered for a good while, then winter came back again and I think now we can say we are experiencing a real true spring...I think.

Maple Flowers Bring Maple Seeds

Recall if you will when I mentioned I was fascinated by the rosy glow of the surrounding woods in early spring and that it was the Maple trees in full bloom. Well, those indistinct flowers have since turned into maple seeds.

Aches and Pains in the Garden

So, I spent a day out in the garden and now I'm paying for it with aches and pains.

Happens all the time. I know I have to take it easy and I never do. Does that make me stupid or just crazy for gardening? Yes, I'm thinking both.

So, how did I get these aches and pains? Regular normal garden activities. I clipped this shrub, yanked out that weed, took wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow full of stuff to the compost pile only to come back and refill it with more stuff.

Too Many Peonies

If you follow me on Facebook--no, not gonna ask you to anymore. That would be too much like begging at this point and I won't beg. It's your loss-- you will know Tom brought me flowers and I complained about it. Why? Because they were peonies and  I have too many peonies!

So, there I was minding my own business--I was writing another chapter for An Ever Fixed Mark. Which reminds me, I still haven't finished this week's installment. Gotta do that. Be right back. Okay, now that it's done I can continue without distractions--when Tom comes home from work with a bunch of bulbs and among them were peonies. No, not a bunch of  flowers ready for the vase. Tom knows I much prefer flowers which give and give again and again. I'm talking about the tubers which will eventually grow into flowers once they are planted in my garden...my way-too-full-of peony-garden. Yes, I have too many peonies!

Day Out in the Garden

So, I spent the day out in the garden yesterday just as I said I would. The sun shone bright, it was relatively warm, and birds not only twittered but they seemed to be making a home in one of the bird houses I have hanging on the front porch. They were busy going to and fro, although they were too quick for me to spot. Perhaps they didn't like the loud music I was blasting. Well, I had to have energizing music to do the job at hand.

Feeling Blah

Feeling blah

You ever feeling blah about everything? You know what feeling blah is. When you just don't want to do anything. You might try to get yourself motivated, but nothing works. Cooking feels blah. Crocheting feels blah.Writing feels blah. Reading feels blah. Folding laundry feels blah--that one isn't much of a stretch though. Even when I'm totally fine and completely content doing laundry feels blah.
